Welcome to Wunderhaus German Shepherds! |
ABOUT WUNDERHAUS We are a small home-based breeder of East German (DDR) working line German Shepherds based in north Texas. German Shepherds have been a part of our lives for 15-plus years. Our dogs are family members first and foremost. They are well-loved and very involved in our everyday family life. They are raised indoors and are free to roam as they please. They enjoy being with the family and adore our three boys. We participate in sports such as Rally, Obedience, Herding, Dock Diving, Nose Work, Barn Hunt, Agility, and Lure Coursing/Fast Cat. We train our dogs. They are happy, healthy, and are outstanding individuals. We take pride in owning such an excellent breed. German Shepherds are fiercely loyal individuals. They keep an eye on their owner and family and greatly desire to please. We cherish these beautiful characteristics in our dogs. They are alert to danger and their surroundings and are always on guard. German Shepherds rarely make overtures of friendship towards strangers. They are fearless yet willing to accept those we deem acceptable. We specialize in breeding German Shepherds from proven East German (DDR) working bloodlines. Our priority is health and temperament. It's essential to complete health testing on our breeding stock before deciding on our breeding pairs. We test for the following: Hips and elbows, Degenerative Myelopathy (DM), and MDR1, as well as the black recessive gene and whether or not we have coat carriers. We strive to produce healthier puppies and adult dogs that can live active lives. We focus on breeding quality dogs that balance temperament, structure, and health. Each breeding is carefully planned with great attributes from each Sire and Dam to produce structurally correct, sound-tempered puppies with solid nerves and versatile pups with strong bones, impressive working structures, and expressive head types. We could not be more proud of the puppies we have produced at Wunderhaus! We strive to match the right puppy with the right family.

Our Puppies..."Our puppies are a part of our family before they become a part of your family."
We raise our pups indoors, and the puppies often socialize with children. We spend much time interacting and handling our puppies throughout the day. Please visit our Litter Activities page to learn more about how we enrich self-confidence in our pups. Our puppies are suitable for working fields such as Herding, Search and Rescue, Tracking and Obedience, Scent work and Schutzhund. German Shepherds also have fun in sports such as Nosework, Agility, Barnhunt, Dock Diving, Lure Coursing, Fast Cat, Rally, and many more! It is essential that our pups go to a wonderful home and become a part of your family. We are here to support you in any way we can to help you achieve your goals with your Wunderhaus puppy. |
Litter activities
We use the Puppy Culture method in our breeding program!
We introduce our puppies to a variety of activities! They get exposure to a saucer swing set, wobble balance board, toddler slide, stairs, a pool full of crackling water bottles, a ball pit, tunnel, flirt pole, and our swimming pool. We also acclimate them to a soft-sided carrier (airline approved) and a wire crate (starting at five weeks), weekly nail trims, brush, and baths beginning at three weeks of age, click & treat (shaping), tug rag and children playing with them daily.
We introduce the puppies to different sounds: CD playing daily (i.e., fireworks, baby crying, dogs barking, car horn, and much more.) Loud noises include pans dropping, kids screaming, lawnmowers, chainsaw, and BB gun popping.
Our goal is to introduce our puppies to various things to build confidence. As we turn our pups over to their new owners, we cannot stress enough how important it is to continue exposing the puppy to new things. The more they see the world at a young age, the more confident they will be as adults. New owners must continue exposing the puppy to new places, people, and sounds while balancing their vaccination schedule and only taking them to places other dogs frequent once their puppy series is complete.
We begin teaching the pups to 'MAND' at five weeks of age. Manding is where the puppy sits in front of you, quietly waiting for a treat.
First, get the pups' attention and let them know you have a treat in your hand. Have your clicker ready! As soon as your puppy sits, CLICK & TREAT! Do NOT reward your puppy if they jump up. After two seconds, when you have a firm sit, click and treat. Do not ignore this. I would keep treats on you or nearby so that you can reward this behavior. You are shaping your puppy to learn to focus on you while sitting quietly, and it will come in handy when you start puppy classes.
